  • What is a wage protection system (WPS)?

A wage protection system is an electronic salary-transfer framework under which employers pay wages through approved banks or agents so that the labour authority can monitor whether salaries are paid in full and on time. Each GCC country runs its own system with its own rules and file formats.

  • Which salary-file format should I use?

Use the exact format and version your bank or WPS agent specifies. Formats differ between countries and often between banks in the same country. WPSHELP marks every format it has not verified as “Needs confirmation” and only exports DRAFT files until you confirm the layout.

  • What is a Qatar SIF file?

The Salary Information File (SIF) is the file employers submit through their bank for the Qatar Wage Protection System. It contains an employer header (establishment ID, payer details, salary month, totals) and one record per employee (QID, IBAN, salary components, deductions, net salary).

  • What are SCR and EDR records in a UAE SIF?

A UAE Salary Information File contains Employee Detail Records (EDR) — one per employee with the person ID, routing code, IBAN, pay period and income — and a Salary Control Record (SCR) that summarises the file for the employer. Your agent bank or exchange house provides the exact layout.

  • Is the Saudi bank salary file the same as the Mudad submission?

No. Salaries are paid through a bank payment file, while wage-protection compliance is tracked through Mudad. Do not assume one file serves both purposes — reconcile the bank payment against the Mudad wage records.

  • Does WPSHELP upload my file to the bank?

No. WPSHELP only generates files in your browser. You must upload the file yourself through your bank's or agent's official channel. WPSHELP never receives bank or government responses.

  • My salary file was rejected. What should I check?

Most rejections come from wrong field order or version, invalid IBANs or identifiers, totals that do not match the header, unsupported characters, wrong filename, or a file corrupted by spreadsheet software (lost leading zeroes, scientific notation). Run the file through the WPSHELP validator and compare with the bank's rejection reason.

  • Which salary components appear in a WPS file?

Typically basic salary, allowances (housing, transport, food, other), overtime or variable pay, deductions and net salary. The salary in the file should be consistent with the employment contract registered with the authority.

  • Can an employer deduct from salary?

Deductions are permitted only in circumstances allowed by local labour law and the contract (for example, advance recovery or authorised penalties) and are often capped. A deduction code in a salary file only classifies the deduction — it does not make it lawful.

  • Should employees receive payslips?

Providing a payslip showing earnings, deductions and net pay is good practice and may be required by local rules or contracts. WPSHELP's payslip generator creates a printable payslip in your browser.

  • How is end-of-service gratuity calculated?

Each country uses its own formula based on years of service, the wage basis (basic or total) and sometimes the reason for leaving. Nationals are often covered by pension or social-insurance schemes instead. Use WPSHELP's calculator for an indicative figure only.

  • What happens if salaries are paid late?

WPS systems flag late or partial salary payments. Consequences can include warnings, fines, suspension of new work permits or other services, depending on the country and how late the payment is.

  • As an employee, how can I complain about unpaid salary?

Each labour authority provides an official complaints channel (online portal, app or service centre). Keep evidence such as your contract, payslips and bank statements.

  • How do I reconcile payroll before upload?

Compare employee count, total gross, total deductions and total net against your payroll system and the header record. Check every employee's IBAN and identifier, and investigate any change from the previous month.

  • What is the wages-responsible person in Bahrain?

Bahrain's WPS framework expects employers to designate a person responsible for wage payments and keep their details current with LMRA. Use the checklist on the Bahrain country dashboard as a starting point.
